Infinitely Polar Bear: Monday, July 6 2015
Infinitely Polar Bear is billed as an American comedy (2014). Written and directed by Maya Forbes, it stars Mark Ruffalo as Cameron Stuart, Zeo Saldana as Maggie Stuart, Imogene Wolodarsky as older daughter, Amelia Stuart, and Ashley Aufderheide as younger daughter, Faith Stuart. The acting is excellent.
Reasonably entertaining, the storyline is mundane, the directing competent. If the main character hadn't been bipolar, there would really have not been too much point to the story. On the other hand, perhaps if I were at that stage of life, I might have found funny the story of a father struggling to take care of two young daughters while his wife pursued further education.
I didn't find it too funny, but, once again, perhaps that is because my sense of humour is different from that of the writer of this story. Lots of people must have liked it because Rotten Tomatoes gives it 81%, IMDb gives it 7.2. People must find it funny to laugh at the trials and tribulations of a person struggling with manic-depression. I don't.
