Mission Impossible: Rogue Nations. Monday, August 10 2015

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is a spy action film. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, it is an entertaining, fun film. Tom Cruise stars as IMF agent, Ethan Hunt. The story, such as it is, is of him trying to prove the existence of The Syndicate, a secret society.

It is set in exotic locales such as a performance of the opera Turandot in Vienna. We are treated to some of the loveliest of all the music by Puccini. On to Morocco and sunshine, then back to London, England. It feels as if one has gone on holiday.

There are all the usual fight scenes, chase scenes, special effects, explosions, horrific torture, running around, and other adrenalin-raising events. When the description says action, it means it.

Tom Cruise fills the part of Ethan Hunt adequately. Alec Baldwin is always fun to watch. Rebecca Ferguson as Isla Faust, was a perfect foil to Cruise. I like these modern heroines! She is no shrinking violet, screaming in a corner.

The film ends with Alec Baldwin as Alan Hunley, coming through for Ethan Hunt. All's well that ends well, and the series is set up for another sequel.
